Cyberpunk, a dystopian genre warning against a "high tech, low life" future as unchecked corporate power and dehumanising technology run rampart. This all to closely mirroring a possible trajectory we could go down, where tech megacorps wield immense influence, invasive digital surveillance is commonplace, and ai integrates into daily life amidst vast social inequalities.
While we lack flying cars or widespread cybernetics, the current underlying socio-political situation slowly shifts into a cyberpunk-like reality; the online safety act and its equivalents in the EU and US, the growing adoption of facial recognition technolgies as seen in china are being introduced in Western countries.

AI is an interesting topic, while it can be an amazing assistive tool it isn't without its flaws.
Studies have shown such as from MIT shows that using LLM's, or what we call AI, results in a significant decrease in brain activity than normal web browsing such as looking at code examples from stack overflow albeit self learning has the highest levels of brain activity. To me a higher average brain activity correlates to larger amount of new neural connections but draw your own conclusions.
This in addition to the poisoning of the internet ai is bringing, an intresting phenomenon is happening where an LLM is used in the creation of a paper where it fabricates evidences, and now that same paper is being referenced by other LLM's making the fabricated idea into a reality for anyone who isnt an expert in the field.
